SHI-01 Five-Day Summer Weaving Intensive –  5 Warps in 5 Days

June 12, 13, 14, 15, 16   9:30 – 4:30

This is a weaving class for all ability levels. Students will be instructed on the following: basic warping of the loom, elements of pattern, color, and design, reading pattern drafts, basic weave structures, finishing hand woven cloth: fringe, hemming, washing, and pressing. Students will leave with a finished hand woven product. There will be open studio time included in this fee.


SHI-02 Kiln Fired Glass Suncatchers

Melting glass is so much fun! Cut brilliant colored pieces of sparkling glass and combine them with stringers, noodles and confetti. Your creations will be fired in a kiln, melting the glass into beautiful sun catchers. Instruction about glass technology, safety, glass cutting and equipment will be covered.


SHI-03 Making Stamped Jewelry

Make a beautiful stamped ring. This ring will be stamped with a name, phrase or inspirational words! It’s a fun workshop and participants will leave with a nice piece of jewelry with a very personal meaning!


SHI-04 Painting Lake Landscapes with Watercolor

Whether a tranquil pond or a lake on a breezy day, water plays a dominant role in a lake landscape. Students will explore techniques specific to painting water creating calm reflections, ripples and sparkle within a landscape setting.


SHI-05 Kiln Fired Glass Pendants

Melting glass, also known as the ancient art of kiln forming, is fun and addictive! This fast paced class will give you a chance to explore kiln-fired glass and many of the techniques that make melting glass so exciting. Create several kiln-fired pendants, working with both clear and black dichroic glass. In the first class, we will be cutting the dichroic glass to create color and design. In the second class you will cut and shape the glass into pendants. Students will leave class with a beautiful finished pendant.


SHI-06 Chair Fiber Rush Weaving for Beginners

SHI-07 Introduction to Metal Clay

July 12, 13  10:00 – 4:00

In this 2-day workshop, students will be introduced to the versatile medium of metal clay. Students will be shown the tools and techniques required to work with silver metal clay.   Texturing, stamping, hollow forms and setting fire able stones will be demonstrated. After firing, students will be shown how to finish their pieces and add color by both patina and a few alternative color techniques.


SHI-08 Traditional Basketmaking

Make a basket using traditional methods. Choose from four styles:

#1 Double-Pie or Garden Basket, 10” x 20” x 5”

#2 Pack basket – 7” x 14” x 18”

#4 Laundry Basket 11” wide x 18” long x 12” high

All with wood or leather handles. Materials and use of tools included in workshop fee.

SHI-10 Bracelets and Rings

July 22   10:00 – 5:00

In this workshop, we will make bangles, cuff bracelets, and rings. Simple wire rings and bracelets will be hammered for texture, and embellished with wire work. Cuff bracelets will be textured and shaped into a C-shape bracelet. You will leave with rings and bangles that you’ve made yourself and these will make great gifts!


SHI-11 Lets Explore Flowers In Pastels

This workshop will concentrate on simplifying the complex reality of flowers. Techniques will be taught that make painting flowers easier than ever imagined. Instructor will demonstrate these techniques and assist students at their easels. The day will end with a critique, along with some framing tips. Students will leave with new insights of various pastel techniques to improve their work.

SHI-13 Large Scale Portraits in Watercolor   Session 1

Create a life-like portrait in watercolor working from high-resolution photographs. Learn to use techniques for creating a grid to aid your drawing of proportions, and work with large brushes and pouring of paint to produce unique color effects. This class will be held at the instructor’s studio in Sandwich.


SHI-16 Sock Knitting 101

Have you caught the sock knitting fever but aren’t sure where to start? This class will take you step by step as you knit a child’s sock. Learn how to knit with double-point needles, a stretch cast on, shape heels, gusset and toes. Students will leave with a pattern for adult socks. This class is for those who understand the basics of knitting and are comfortable with a number of simple techniques. Supplies and tools list to be provided.


SHI-17 Introduction to Two Color Knitting

Learn the traditional method of Icelandic Fair Isle knitting. This stranded knitting which uses two colors per row is easy to do!  We will cover how to hold the yarns, the method for tangle free knitting, chart reading and finishing. Start a hat in class you can finish at home. This class is for those who understand the basics of knitting and are comfortable with a number of simple techniques.  Supplies and tools list to be provided.
