WATERCOLOR CLASSES

Painting the Many Moods and Facets of Water in Watercolor
Instructor: Robert O’Brien
July 24th and/or July 25th, 2019
10:00 am – 4:00 pm
Location: Sandwich Home Industries 32 Main Street, Center Sandwich
Tuition: $ 80 per class
Bring your own materials (list available Materials List-O’Brien)

Please note: Students must bring their own materials. A good way to get them is to order online at  cheapjoes.com or dickblick.com. Best to do this sooner than later so you are ready for the class.

This workshop, which may be taken for two consecutive days or a single day, will focus on the many moods and facets of painting water in the watercolor medium. Students will learn techniques from rendering a simple reflective puddle to a swift-moving mountain stream and everything in between. Foreshortening and the ability to suggest a flat plane will be taught when painting a meandering river or a lake. Water provides the artist with an endless variety of interpretations given its reflective qualities as well as its restlessness. Each class will start with a demonstration by the instructor followed by class painting. A critique will be offered at the end of the session. Reference photos will be provided and students are encouraged to bring their own as well. A materials list will be provided upon request.

Robert has been painting in the watercolor medium for over 45 years. He is a signature member of the American, National, New England, among others, Watercolor Societies.  He is a full-time artist and instructor with over 35 years of teaching experience. He teaches workshops throughout the Northeast, all over the U.S. and abroad.

Drawing Animals and Nature
Instructor: Kathryn Field
June 26th 10:00 am – 4:00 pm
OR
July 28th 10:00 am – 4:00 pm
Location: Sandwich Home Industries 32 Main Street, Center Sandwich
Tuition: $125, materials included

This one-day class is an introduction to drawing form in motion – a good family activity. We will start at the Center Sandwich Fine Craft Gallery classroom with an introduction to drawing animals, basic geometric shapes, exploring line, shape, and form. Then we will drive 5 minutes to a friend’s farm where we will draw goats, alpacas, and chickens.

If you enjoy watching your pets move and play and want to capture that in your art, join me for a class in the basic drawing of shape, form, and textures. In this day-long workshop, we will explore drawing with both wet and dry medium and focus on issues of perspective, proportion, and value to make drawings that come alive. All materials are provided and all levels are welcome.

Wear clothing that you can comfortably work outside in. We will start the class inside and then move to a local farm and draw outside. Bring a bag lunch and drink to enjoy on the green.

Kathryn Field is a painter and sculptor who lives in Center Sandwich and exhibits at Patrica Ladd Carega Gallery in Sandwich and Mill Brook Gallery in Concord NH. Her work is included in public and private collections, nationally and internationally.
