Sam began making ceramics in 2014 after leaving the Navy and embarking on a journey to find expressive ways to work with his hands and work through stress. He found clay by chance at a small community college in Virginia, a class that would lead him down a path with clay that he never expected. Going on to a four-year apprenticeship he learned the ins and outs of studio pottery and the work and dedication it took to make it work. He moved to New Hampshire in 2022, built his small gas kiln, and fires functional and sculptural ceramics at his home studio in Washington.
